Joost Dirk was born on April 20th, 1899 Rotterdam.  Joost Dirk's father was Dirk Cornelis van Diemen and his mother was Joostje de Haan.  His paternal grandparents were Dirk van Diemen and Cornelia Maria Verzijl; his maternal grandparents were Joost de Haan and Jauntje Visser. He had a sister named Cornelia Adriana johanna.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 45 on January 23rd, 1945 Indonesie.

Joost Dirk and Catharina Pieternella were married in a civil ceremony on July 10th, 1929.  They had two sons and two daughters, named Dirk Cornelis, Fred, Gijsina Hendrika and Hanna.
